Poul Henningsen designed hundreds of lamps based on the three-shade system, which he developed in 1926 to provide all-purpose lighting of unequaled quality. Many of his lamp designs include a number that refers to the size of each fixture's shades. The PH 3/3 is part of the Whole Numbers product series, which is characterized by its appealing compact appearance with a top shade of approximately 30 cm in diameter, which corresponds to the middle and lower shades in the proportions of 3:2:1. Henningsen’s Whole Numbers fixtures are designed to be particularly glare-free. Therefore, they are ideally placed high-up in a room where they can provide superior quality lighting and a warm ambiance. The more widely known "hybrid" sizes, on the other hand, are designed to hang low and provide optimum lighting and a warm atmosphere—for example, above a table. In 2022, Louis Poulsen extends the Whole Numbers collection with the introduction of the PH 3/3 Pendant Limited Edition. Made of opal glass and brass, it provides a particularly soft and uniform light distribution. The two opal-glass lower shades are glossy on top and sandblasted matte on the underside. The brass is characterized by fine lines that follow the round shape of the fixture. The pendant comes with a specially designed brass canopy, and a brass socket house marked with Henningsen’s initials. The brass is untreated and will develop a stylish patina over time. Alternatively, it can be carefully polished from time to time to maintain its original finish. From small hallways and bedrooms to high-ceilinged kitchens and living rooms, the PH 3/3 Pendant Limited Edition will elevate any room. This classic Danish design in opal glass and brass looks particularly striking in rows—for example, above a table or in a hallway. The pendant is only available for a limited time.
