Lighting above your dining table

The dining table is more than just a place to eat—it’s where life unfolds. It is here that conversations flow, laughter lingers, and everyday moments become lasting memories. The right lighting does more than illuminate the space; it creates ambiance, casting a warm, inviting glow that enhances connection.

A thoughtfully selected fixture strikes a perfect balance between function and function, ensuring every gathering—whether an intimate dinner or a lively celebration—feels effortless and harmonious. The ideal light transforms the dining table into the true heart of the home.

How many pendants do you need?

The number of pendants should complement the shape and size of your dining table while ensuring even light distribution.

For square or round tables, a single statement pendant is often sufficient, though additional lighting throughout the room can enhance ambiance.

For rectangular tables, multiple pendants arranged in a row create a balanced look and provide ample illumination. To maintain even light distribution, space them approximately 30 inches apart along the length of the table.

By carefully considering the number and placement of fixtures, you can achieve both functionality and aesthetic harmony in your dining space.

How high should you hang your pendant?

The height of your pendant light should enhance both function and aesthetics. As a general guideline, the bottom of the fixture should hang 24–28 inches above the table’s surface for optimal illumination without obstructing sightlines.

Before cutting the cable to its final length, test the height to ensure it feels comfortable within the space.

Adding light for depth and ambiance

Layering table, floor, or wall sconces throughout the room adds dimension, creating a more inviting (and Danish inspired!) atmosphere. The right lighting transforms your dining table from a functional surface into a beautifully illuminated space where moments and memories
