Louis Poulsen is pleased to announce the expansion of its LP Circle fixture range, designed in collaboration with Mikkel Beedholm, with two new colors - yellow and pale petroleum. Adding to the existing white and black options, the new hues expand the range’s ability to bring functional, modern aesthetics and excellent general lighting to a wider array of projects and applications, from public and private offices to institutions.
“The choice of colors is unusual for a ceiling fixture,” says architect Mikkel Beedholm of KHR Architecture, who originally designed the LP Circle in 2013. “In both their lit and unlit states, the new yellow and petroleum options add vibrant color to what are often otherwise colorless rooms, adding not only functionality but also dynamic aesthetics to a given space. The colored rings also reduce glare and highlight the shape of the luminaire.”
In developing the LP Circle fixture, Beedholm took a bold new approach. Pushing aside the standard policy that everything on the ceiling should be white or aluminum, Beedholm ushered in a simultaneously creative and decorative solution in which light is no longer an anonymous room accessory but interplays rationally, functionally, and decoratively to add life and atmosphere to the space.
The LP Circle design drew on Beedholm’s experience creating the OreLED fixture for the Ørestad School in Denmark – an ambitious and innovative project involving radical new lighting fixtures designed jointly by KHR and Louis Poulsen. In developing the LP Circle design, Beedholm evolved the principles behind the OreLED, further refining the collar that has become the LP Circle’s signature element. “We wanted the collar to give the fixture character and interact with the building’s architecture, adding an extra dimension to the interior through the randomized reflection of the light,” he explains.
The LP Circle emits diffused light via a high-efficiency acrylic diffuser, which is encircled by a voluminous ring, and hidden when viewed from low angles. Angling the inner side of the ring five degrees creates a comfortable and decorative graduation of light from the diffuser. With two diameters and four different installation options, the LP Circle series is ideal for a wide range of applications.
The LP Circle is available in sizes of 10” and 17” in diameter; in white, black, yellow, and pale petroleum; and in two ceiling models which can be fully- or semi-recessed. The 17” LP Circle is also available for surface mounting on the ceiling or as a pendant.
