The most beloved products are often immediately recognizable and have the feeling of being seen before. nendo founder Oki Sato captured it in a popular NJP lamp he designed in 2015. In keeping with that spirit, Louis Poulsen and nendo want to expand the entire NJP range with light aluminium grey.
Oki Sato is the head of the renowned Japanese nendo design studio. He is known for his minimalist shapes with evoked details and his soft, friendly shapes that instantly bring comfort to any environment. The NJP lamp exemplifies this approach with its familiar chimney-shaped head design. Regarded as a new interpretation of classic architect's lamps, the NJP lamps have been expanded to encompass floor lamps and two wall lamps. And now they want to add light aluminum gray to the traditional black and white options to meet the needs for modern interiors.
"We tried to develop a colour that would strike the right balance between the inherent coolness of metal and the warmth of the moderately soft grey colours," explains Rasmus Markholt, design manager at Louis Poulsen. "The finish and feel had to match the shape of the NJP in terms of softness, modernity, and elegance. To use the hidden buttons, you have to wrap your hand around the lamp head, so it had to be tactile. I was very pleased with the visual and tactile experience of the Light Aluminium Grey Edition, which captures Oki Sato's signature shape in a new light."
Human, easy-to-use multifunctional design
The minimalist NJP design is rooted in the idea that lighting is an integral part of our existence and that good work lighting makes life and work more effective and fulfilling. NJP is the right lighting for workspaces, bedrooms, and living spaces, both in design and function. It offers a simple, elegant, user-centered design that enhances a variety of uses, satisfaction, and performance.
"When it came to this collaboration, Oki Sato and the team were most concerned about a simple, practical design, and a story that made sense and brought it all together." Rasmus Markholt added. "The new Light Aluminium Grey adds aesthetics to modern homes and workspaces, but also offers smart features, adding a new visual dimension and keeping the story flowing logically."NJP features built-in LED technology. Despite its compact size, it adds high-quality anti-glare lighting that spreads smoothly into a spacious space.
The following details have been considered for the use and visual aspects of this lamp. The flexible head and arm add flexibility so you can place it anywhere you want, whether it's a desk, bedroom, armchair or sofa. The arm joints have exposed springs, which adds to the decorative expressiveness of the NJP. The chimney-shaped head, which clearly shows the silhouette of the NJP, reflects some of the light through the back, illuminating the top of the arm as well as cooling the LED lamps through the upper vents.
The NJP Light Aluminium Grey range will be available in stores from February 2018.
