Louis Poulsen is joined by renowned Danish designer Jakob Wagner's new Ripls luminaires, adding a multi-dimensional lighting experience while ensuring high-quality regular lighting.
This round wall and ceiling lamp emits diffused light, and its front is shaped like water ripples. Ripples refract light from the front, creating subtle changes in appearance from different viewing angles.
"The sight of an object falling into the water and ripples on the surface of the water was a bit fascinating, and we wanted to capture that moment in time while using a circular wave shape to shape the light from within." "Just as ripples add dimension to calm water, the rippling shapes in the glass add dimension to the light, making the Ripls an intriguing, vibrant, yet comforting light source." ”
"What's unique about Wagner's design is that it's both minimalist and constantly changing." According to Rasmus Marcholt, Director of Creative & Design at Louis Poulsen, "He succeeded in creating a design that was a multi-dimensional experience; In other words, he realizes a multi-layered luminaire design. From a distance, it's just a milky white round light, a glowing disc. It's so small that even if you fit 50 in a room, you probably won't get much attention. But look closer, and you'll see concentric ripples used to capture light, which refract light on its own in an ever-changing way. And, if you accidentally touch the surface, you'll be surprised to learn that the exterior is actually smooth and flat, with ripples on the inside of the fixture, which brings a touch of magic to the overall design. ”
Ripls have a slender, rounded shape with bumpy wavy shapes that produce a high-intensity light in the center that fades towards the edges. The diffuser is slightly offset and placed deep into the luminaire, creating a sense of depth when viewed from the front. The slim casing creates a floating disc appearance, while the voids in the opaque casing allow indirect light to form a halo around the fixture. The overall effect is deep, soft and playful, striking just the right balance between impact and subtlety to blend in with a variety of architectural spaces.
Ripls is ideal for hallways, stairwells and entrance areas, and is ideal for regular lighting in small office spaces and meeting rooms.
Ripls luminaires are a staple design with a number of additional features, diffuse light, available in 310 mm and 500 mm diameters, and a standard color temperature of 3000K, making them suitable for all markets. Available in clear reflective, creamy and satin matte white styles.
Ripls will be available in September 2017.
