"Why don't the would-be black-eyed lighting experts look at the light of daylight? Isn't daylight what gives light and real richness to life?" - Poul Henningsen, 1958.
Poul Henningsen is a pioneer in lighting design. He was one of the first to recognize the importance of embodying light, and in 1958 he designed the PH 1926 pendant as a successor to his 3 triple-shade system. Based on a meticulous analysis of light reflection, Poul Henningsen's PH 5 illumination is recognized as a classic of Danish design and is known for its innovative anti-glare and uniform luminescence. In the spirit of Poul Henningsen, Louis Poulsen has launched the PH 5 Mini, a resized version of the classic pendant for modern and creative living.
Henningsen designed the PH 5 to match the ever-changing shapes and sizes of incandescent bulbs. The PH 5 was introduced as a classic new product, but no one could have predicted that it would later become the hallmark of PH lighting. Regardless of the light source used and the installation method, the PH 5 offers complete anti-glare. Henningsen also wanted to improve the color reproduction of the PH 5's light source. To compensate for the red and blue parts of the spectrum, which are the least sensitive parts of the eye, small red and blue shades were inserted to mute the light in the yellow-green part, which is most sensitive. The all-new PH 5 Mini comes in a revolutionary new palette in collaboration with colour expert Louise Sass with a colour scheme that progresses from the darkest top to the shade and becomes softer.
The PH 5 got its name because the top shade had a diameter of 50 cm. Louis Poulsen now presents a mini version of the iconic PH 30 with a 5 cm diameter top shade. The mini version is available in the classic colour of the PH 5, the new Contemporary White and the following six colour combinations: These are orange tints, rose shades, red shades, green shades, blue tints and gray shades.
The PH 5 Mini will be available in stores from October 2017.
