The most popular designs are often the product of a combination of momentary impressiveness and unprecedented appeal. This is also the spirit of nendo's founder, Oki Sato, when he designed his hit NJP lamp in 2015, and Louis Poulsen and nendo are now expanding the entire NJP collection with light aluminum gray to promote this consistent spirit.
Oki Sato, head of renowned Japanese design studio nendo, excels at combining minimalist forms with memorable details and using soft and pleasant shapes to create a sense of comfort in the application environment. NJP lamps embody this approach through common chimney-shaped lamp head designs. A new interpretation of the classic architect lamp, the NJP series has been expanded to include a floor lamp and two wall lamps, and the collection is still growing, adding light gray to the existing black and white to meet the needs of modern interior design.
"We've been developing a color that strikes a balance between the inherent coldness of metal and the warmth of the ideal soft gray." Rasmus Markholt, Design Manager at Louis Poulsen, said, "In terms of softness, modernity and elegance, the paint and touch also need to match the shape of the NJP, because you need to hold the lamp head with your hand to operate the hidden buttons. We are very pleased with the visual and sensory experience presented by this version of light aluminium grey, which takes on the unique form of Oki Sato in a completely new way. ”
User-friendly, easy-to-control multifunctional design
The minimalist NJP design is based on the recognition that light is essential to our overall well-being, and that good work lighting can boost our productivity and make us more satisfied with our lives and work. In terms of design and functionality, NJP is the ideal luminaire for workspaces, bedrooms and living areas, combining functionality and simplicity, with an elegant, customer-focused, powerful and fun look.
"For Oki Sato and our team, the most important thing in this collaboration was to create a simple, functional and meaningful design that connects everything in a meaningful way." Rasmus Markholt adds, "The new light aluminium grey model logically continues this story, adding a new visual dimension that meets the aesthetic needs of more modern homes and workspaces, while continuing its smart features. ”NJP features built-in LED technology that, despite its small size, gently disperses undazzling, high-quality light over large areas.
We have considered every detail of the application of the light and the visual impact. For example, the lamp head and arm are flexible in their use and make it easy to plan the ideal position, whether at a desk, bedside, armchair or sofa. Exterior springs at the junction of the arms add to the decorative feel of the NJP. In addition to determining the outline of the NJP, the chimney-like head reflects part of the light through the rear, illuminates the top of the arm and cools the LED light through the top vents.
A light aluminium grey version of the NJP series will be available in stores from February 2018.
