Gamfratesi, a design duo that brings the most innovative designs to the world today. Inspired by Louis Poulsen's design philosophy of shaping light and the masterpieces of Danish design, Stine Gum and Enrico Fratesi designed a lamp called "Yuh" (ユー = You).
With a deep understanding of design history, Gamfrates shares Poul Henningsen's philosophy of light and Arne Jacobsen's geometric forms. While paying homage to their predecessors, they have put their own playfulness into their own beauty in their new work, Yuh.
"We draw a lot of inspiration from the AJ lamp designed by Arne Jacobsen, whose geometric design is very impressive."
"The lamp is sloping, but it's designed so that part of the shade is always parallel to the floor in some way, very sculptural and geometric at the same time," says Stine Gam. "The AJ lamp is an architectural work," says Enrico Fratesi.
Commenting on the collaboration, Louis Poulsen's Design Director, Rasmus Markholt, explains: "The collaboration with Gamfratesi was inevitable, and they were the perfect partner for us because they share a strong, contemporary aesthetic and the values of the Danish design tradition."
Personal, personal light
The essence of this lamp is that it is personal. The ramp is flexible and takes up very little space. You can also rotate it, raise it up and down, illuminate only the areas you need, and create an atmosphere there. This is a lamp that only illuminates your surroundings.
"The biggest challenge was designing the ramp to move in multiple directions, and the design process became very complicated as a result of the three movements on the axis: tilt, rotation, and up and down. But despite these huge challenges, thanks to Louis Poulsen's amazing team of engineers, the work went smoothly." That's what Enrico Fratesi says.
The lamp emits glare-free light straight downward. The angle of the shade can be adjusted to optimize the direction of the light. A narrow opening at the top of the shade allows a soft light to spread upwards.
"The desire to integrate the diffuser with the lamp comes from our respect for Poul Henningsen's work and our preference for indirect light. I think the diffuser that hides the light source makes the light wonderful," says Stine Gam.
In April of this year, Louis Poulsen presented the new lighting at the Euroluce Fair in Milan in a highly innovative exhibition booth designed by Gamfratesi. The booth was created by Gamfratesi inspired by Japan origami, and was an extraordinary space that allowed visitors to experience the light effects and atmosphere created by multiple cuts, lines, and forms.
Yuh will be launched in October 2017. It consists of a table lamp, a floor lamp, and a wall lamp, and comes in two colors: white and black.

About GamFratesi
Gamfratesi uses an experimental approach to materials and technology to create creative designs that blend tradition and innovation. Stine Gum and Enrico Fratesi share their backgrounds with classic Danish design traditions and craftsmanship, as well as Italy's intellectual and conceptual approach. We seek to further develop tradition by understanding it and actively expressing it. From this cross-cultural mother, the duo presents unique designs that embrace story and symbolism while respecting tradition through the form of minimalism.
Gamfratesi was founded in 2006 by Danish architect Stine Gumm and Italian architect Enrico Fratesi. They met in 2004 at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Ferrara in Northern Italy and later studied together at the Aarhus School of Architecture in Denmark. Gamfratesi is based in his studio in Copenhagen.
