Louis Poulsen adds a new color to Wilhelm Lauritzen's series
Louis Poulsen collaborated with Wilhelm Lauritzen, a pioneer of Danish functionalist architecture in the 20th century, to design a number of luminaires that shape light. Collaborating with creative architects and designers is an essential part of building the world of Louis Poulsen.
Wilhelm Lauritzen's luminaires, VL38 (a series of table, floor and wall lamps) and VL45 (pendants), were originally designed in the late 1930s for the Danish state broadcaster Radio House, but in recent years there has been a particularly high demand for their revival, and Louis Poulsen began reproduction last year, and this spring it will be reproduced. At the Euroluce lighting trade fair in Milan, the black version of the VL38 series was unveiled. The addition of the black VL45 to the classic VL38 radio house pendant in milky blown glass and brass further enriches the Lauritswen classic range.
Wilhelm Lauritzen was an artistic genius when it came to combining light and materials. Already in the 1920s, Lauritzen began an in-depth study of natural light, and throughout his life he worked diligently to develop and improve lighting, which harmonized perfectly with the architecture he designed.
The VL38's unique shaded form is the epitome of Lauritzen design. The beautiful combination of original white and brass is a timeless design. The new black version adds a crisp modernity to the design, making the series easier to use not only in private places, but also in public spaces such as libraries.
The arms of the lamps are made of brass and the shades are painted white on the inside to deliver a gentle and pleasant light. The lamp, which can be dimmed in two stages, emits light downwards and the angle of the shade can be adjusted to optimize the light. Whether it's a table, floor or wall lamp, the latest LED technology is used.
The black version of the VL38 table, wall and floor lamps will be available in Japan in November 2017.

About Wilhelm Lauritzen
One of the most outstanding architects in the history of Danish architecture, Wilhelm Lauritzen (1894~1984) was a pioneer of functionalist architecture in Denmark.
Throughout his life, Lauritzen maintained that architecture was an "applied art" with equal emphasis on both "art" and "application." Lauritzen also believed that "where there is no beauty, there is no life." Mastering both natural and artificial lighting, Lauritzen always incorporated natural light into his architectural projects. Large windows were placed on the south and west sides so that the warm sunlight that entered the windows on the north and east sides blended wonderfully with the cool light. It is an approach that prevents people's attention from being limited to the limited wall surface of the room, allowing people, furniture and decoration to be emphasized and shaded in a sculptural light. Lauritzen's luminaires are based on a similar concept, combining directional light that creates sharp shadows with gentle light that creates soft shadows throughout the room.
Lauritzen's first lamp for the Radio House appeared in the Louis Poulsen catalogue in the mid-1940s. In the 1950s, as Lauritzen's signature construction projects unfolded, the Lauritzen series expanded to include more types of luminaires.
