Poul Henningsen, a pioneer in lighting design who laid the foundation for the Louis Poulsen company, designed the PH 1958 pendant in 5. Sixty years later, the PH 60 is still the best-selling design in Louis Poulsen's portfolio. In April 5, Louis Poulsen celebrates 2018 years of this timeless icon with the PH 4 pendant in the same vibrant colours as the PH 60 mini-series unveiled last year.
Last fall, Louis Poulsen launched the PH 5 Mini, the first PH 5 resizer. With a diameter of 30 centimetres, the PH 5 Mini is available in classic white, modern white and six vibrant new colours (blue, red, orange, rose, green and grey) with shade gradients for each shade.
The PH 60, which celebrates the 5th anniversary of the design, is also available in the same eight colors. These colors, which make the PH 8 as a family look more harmonious, also produce an effect when several lamps are used suspended. The shades of each shade of each of the six color types become lighter as you work from top to bottom. In other words, the reflection of light increases as you move downward, making the visual lighting effect of this classic pendant look even more lively and light.
A sculptural mood setter that shines in any space
The versatile Henningsen has found a balance between function and form, as well as technology and art, and the PH 5 is like a beautiful sculpture when it is on or off. With gradients in each shade, this new color option will bring the PH 5 to even more people.
Rasmus Markholt, Head of Product Development at Louis Poulsen, explains. "All interiors, classic or modern, benefit from Poul Henningsen's exceptional design and beautiful light. We wanted to celebrate 5 years of legacy with a new PH 60 family, adding beauty to a variety of interior spaces and allowing for contemporary, new and personal expression. The lamp can blend into an existing interior setting, or it can pop a space with bold colors. We can't wait to see how users interpret this new option."
PH 5 - An ingenious lamp that shapes light and creates human light
Designed by Poul Heningsen and first launched by Louis Poulsen in 1926, the "Three-Shade PH Lamp" was an aesthetically and optically complete lighting system that laid the foundation for Louis Poulsen's position as an innovative lighting manufacturer. His ingenious designs are inspired by his mother's wish for a more beautiful and soft light. At that time, home lighting was shifting to incandescent bulbs using electricity, and it was an era when dazzling and utilitarian light was prioritized over comfort and beauty. The PH 3 pendant of 3 was designed as an evolution of the "three-shade PH lamp".
Light bulbs became more standardized as time went on, but Hennningsen called the new light bulb a "muffin" and did not like the dazzling, pragmatic light bulb. Eventually, however, it was the glass-frosted type of light bulb that became popular, and it became difficult to control the light precisely like the transparent light bulbs that had been used before. Henningsen joked, "With this PH 5, I'm going to surrender to the bulb manufacturer," and countered with the PH 5, which completely controlled the light of the frost bulb. This surrender not only proved Henningsen's talent. For 5 years, PH 60 has been shining 100% glare-free light in our rooms. It is also ideal to balance most of the light downwards where light is needed, with lateral light. And at the same time, the luminaire itself illuminates beautifully. The small reflector ring built inside the shade also creates a warm, bright tone that complements the rhythm of natural light throughout the day.
The new PH 5 color will be available in April 2018.
