Decorating with Du Rietz

The Swedish interior designer duo Josephine and Christoffer Du Rietz live in Mallorca, where they create dream homes like Santa Teresa, a 550 m2 townhouse located in the centre of Sollér. This house was perfect for the couple because of its old soul, architectural features and a lovely garden.

“We also love this house because its windows let in loads of daylight. It's full of cosy, shadowy corners, too, where you can sit down, take a break from the sun outside and read a book. Great lighting helps to provide that homey feeling we like,”

Coming from Sweden, the passion for light lies deep in the couple's DNA, as Josephine Du Rietz explains:

"When you come from the darker Nordic countries, lighting gives a room ambience. Our preference for a more minimalistic and sophisticated style also stems from Scandinavia. We love to combine it with the local Spanish style in our work."

When the Du Rietzs first look at a house, which might even be a ruin, they already envision the rooms, imagining, for instance, how a particular table with an elegant lamp will look in a corner with the light on in the evening.

“Everything comes down to what we see before us in any house we look at,”
Christoffer Du Rietz says.

“We have always loved the PH 2/1 Table Lamp, and in this limited edition colour, it fits in perfectly in Santa Teresa. The tones give it a rustic feeling, yet it’s still the same lamp we’ve known forever.”

The interior designers try to stay clear of trends, which is also why they prefer timeless designs, often from Louis Poulsen, when they style homes. As Christoffer Du Rietz explains, people always seem to know the lamps and their qualities.

“If you buy a Louis Poulsen lamp, people will probably recognise it in 100 years because it has been around for so long. And we want our interior décor to still look as beautiful after 30 years.”
