Rediscover a Poul Henningsen masterpiece

Louis Poulsen is thrilled to announce the launch of Poul Henningsen’s stunning PH Snowball in three new contemporary hues, set for spring 2025. Each one is an ideal addition to modern interiors.

The PH Snowball was first introduced in 1958 alongside the PH Artichoke and PH 5, all designed by Poul Henningsen, a star of the golden age of Danish architecture. Despite its significant design and excellent lighting qualities, the PH Snowball didn’t receive the same attention.

A versatile pendant
Today, it looks better than ever in subtle Dusty Blue, Dusty Green and Soft White, blending in while still standing out. True to its heritage, the PH Snowball is a cool fit for a variety of settings. It offers excellent lighting for both high ceilings and staircases, and works wonderfully above dining tables and kitchen countertops, too, serving as an iconic highlight in homes as well as any other setting.

The quiet life of the PH Snowball
The PH Snowball was first exhibited in 1958 at the Danish Museum of Decorative Art (now Designmuseum Denmark), where it was presented alongside two other Poul Henningsen lamps: the PH Artichoke and the PH 5. These designs received significant attention then, while the equally remarkable PH Snowball remained in their shadow.
More than twenty years later, in 1983, the PH Snowball was rediscovered and launched. Yet, many people are still unaware of this masterpiece, which is now set to be introduced to the world once more.

“Once you have experienced proper lighting,
life is filled with new values.”
Poul Henningsen

Contemporary artistry with a twist
The PH Snowball offers exceptional glare-free lighting, adhering to Poul Henningsen’s core design principles of form following function. The design builds upon his System PH, which began with the famous three-shades designs in 1925-26.
The sculptural PH Snowball is partly handcrafted and involves several meticulous production processes. The shades are painted in contemporary new finishes that are slightly more matte, and the interior frames are crafted with modern high-lustre chrome plating. For the first time in the regular assortment, a warmer polished metallised brass option is also available. Both choices perfectly complement the Soft White colour and the Dusty Green and Dusty Blue versions, which change fascinatingly when the light is turned on and off.

Available soon
The PH Snowball will be available in the new Soft White, Dusty Green and Dusty Blue versions in combination with a polished metallised brass or high-lustre chrome frame at selected stores and louispoulsen.com from May 2025.
