The new forensic psychiatry unit, Sct. Hans Hospital, is a beautiful example of healing architecture, designed by KHR architects. The building is designed such that it becomes a part of its beautiful surroundings in the hilly terrain near Roskilde Fjord. The hospitals 20,700m2 includes space for the forensic psychiatry unit’s 126 modern patient rooms. Sct. Hans’ design incorporates the surround nature, unifying the indoors with the outdoors, which is an important aspect in the concept of healing architecture.
Lighting is proven to have an impact on well-being, and Louis Poulsen’s LP Circle fixture has been chosen to illuminate the large building. The round fixture has been selected in the semi-recessed version and specified in a number of custom colours, suited to the hallways, larger assembly rooms and the patient rooms. The fixtures are also customised to suit the needs of the psychiatric hospital with safety screws to ensure that the fixtures cannot be torn away from the ceiling.
LP Circle was launched in 2013 and designed in collaboration with Mikkel Beedholm from KHR Architecture, who is also the architect behind Sct. Hans Forensic Psychiatric Hospital. The studio has a very Nordic architectural style, with a simple and clear form, where humans and the function of the space is the focus.
