Background: Åpent Bakeri (Open Bakery), is a Norwegian artisanal bakery chain that is founded on a belief in craftsmanship, traditional methods and pure, natural ingredients. In creating the design for the latest Oslo outlet, Åpent's interior architect was concerned to use lighting as a key ingredient in portraying the bakery's identity and brand values. These are conveyed not only through the appearance of the fittings – highly visible to passers-by in the contemporary greenhouse-style structure – but in the warm, hospitable ambience that their lit effect produces. Central to the scheme are the clusters of Patera pendants in various sizes suspended from the ceiling. Appearing to float in space, they are an eye-catching feature for people passing by both during the day and at night, when they produce a cosy, glowing light. Their ingenious Fibonacci-based design structure also introduces an element of optical playfulness as viewers experience them differently according to their vantage point.

Above the sales counter, a line of VL Ring Crown 1 opal glass pendants highlight the freshly baked goods, providing a pleasant, glare-free illumination. The classic, elegant shape of the pendants, designed in the 1940s, adds a sense of tradition and longevity. PH 2/1 Amber Glass table lamps appear like mushrooms in the lush green foliage used throughout the interior. Mounted on oak wood railings, they help define the lounge seating area on the second floor. The light diffused by the amber-coloured glass is reminiscent of candlelight, defining this part of the cafe with a mellow, relaxed ambience.
