In 1971, Verner Panton joined forces with Louis Poulsen to develop a luminaire, the arched Panthella, which was designed to shape light and create a soft glow in its surroundings to create the ideal atmosphere, which has since become one of the brand's signature designs. Since then, consumer demand for organic, elegant shapes has continued to grow, prompting Louis Poulsen to develop the Panthella MINI in 2016 with the aim of providing a sculptural luminaire design for smaller spaces. To fully realize Panton's original vision for a metal version of the Panthella, Louis Poulsen was ready to release a small, chrome-plated Panthella MINI.
The new chrome version of the Panthella MINI is inspired by the chrome paint finish Panthorn himself chose for the original table and floor lamp versions of the Panthella. Just like the colorful version of the Panthella MINI released in 2016, the chrome version of the Panthella MINI lampshade is also made of metal. When the chrome mirror playfully engages its surroundings, Panthella MINI becomes an integral part of the space, enriching and enlivening the interior.
"When Verner Panton first developed the Panthella lamp with Louis Poulsen in 1971, he wanted to design a metal shade that was completely impossible to achieve with the technology at the time." "We were able to bring his vision to life in 2016 when we first launched the Panthella MINI, which uses Panton's bold color palette to paint a metallic shade. Now, by working closely with the Panton family, we have realized Panton's vision and even furthered it with authentic metallic paint. As a result, the design retains the classic form, but also injects a new expression, beginning to interact with all aspects and people around it. ”
The Panthella MINI features built-in LED technology for premium adjustable lighting. The stepless dimming range is between 15% and 100%, and the user can set the desired brightness level and turn on the light. The light also comes with a timer that can be set to automatically turn off the light after 4 or 8 hours.
Compact and compact, with a diameter of 250 mm and a height of 335 mm, it can be easily placed on windowsills, shelves, tabletops or other surfaces where space is limited. The new shade is white on the inside, directing light to diverge downwards, then reflect from the bottom up, and radiate into the space from the bottom of the flar.
The chrome version of the Panthella MINI will be available in March 2018.
Unconventional design: the heritage of Verner Panton
Verner Panton (1926-1998) was known for his inspirational and colorful designs, as well as his outstanding personality. As a unique designer with an extraordinary sense of colour, shape, light function and space, Panton has created a range of modern luminaires that are very different from those created by his Scandinavian contemporaries.
In the '20s and '50s, most Danish architects and designers used wood and other natural materials, but Verner Panton's preference for new materials led him to become an expert in steel, plastic, plexiglass and fiberglass. He made a series of pioneering designs in the field of synthetic materials, pioneering the use of rings and circles in the field of design, which became a mainstream figure in the "organic design" school.
