Louis Poulsen introduces the new 2019 VL45 Radiohaus pendant range. The new edition complements the existing Ø250 and Ø370 sizes with the addition of Ø175, offering endless opportunities for exciting and different interior design with a classic feel.
The VL45 Radiohaus pendant was designed by Louis Poulsen and renowned Danish architect Vilhelm Lauritzen in collaboration with the Danish broadcaster Radiohuset, which was built in the 1940s. Initially, the VL45 Radiohaus pendant was given the name 'Office Lamp'.
The 'Office Lamp' is a very similar but less complex version of the 'Studio Lamp', with a two-piece shade and a compact and aerodynamic design that does not obstruct the flow of air for ventilation, even in crowded studios where musicians practice for hours. It also incorporates the downward lighting and precision task lighting that musicians need, and emits a soft, diffused light that is free of glare throughout.
To meet these requirements, Vilhelm Lauritzen applied an oval mirror to the inner shade and enclosed it with an opal glass bell on the outside. The VL45 Radiohaus Pendant fits perfectly into modern interior design trends, while preserving the warm, sophisticated look and feel of what we know today in terms of lighting.
In either version, the VL45 Radiohaus pendant is crafted from polished mouth-blown white opal glass and raw, brushed brass. These pendants offer an effect that enlivens any type of interior, big or small, alone or in groups.
The VL45 Radiohaus Pendant will be available in all stores from September, starting with size Ø175. In addition, the size Ø9 pendant will be available with LED upgrade elements.
Introduction to Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894–1984)
Vilhelm Lauritzen is one of the most important architects in Danish history and a pioneer of Danish functionalism. He designed many buildings that represent the essence of modern living, including the Nørrebro Theatre (1931–32), the Daells Varehus department store (1928–35), the Radiohuset (1936–41) and the first airport built in Kastrup (1937–39).
Other major buildings included in Lauritzen's design drawings include the Folkets Hus (1953–56), better known today as Vega Concert Street, the Shellhuset (1950–51) building, and the Danish Embassy in Washington (1958–60). In particular, the aforementioned Radiohuset building and the early version of Kastrup Airport are considered to be monuments in which the characteristics of the modernist genre of European architecture are most prominently expressed.
