Renowned Danish designer Jakob Wagner's Lipples join the Louis Poulsen collection, offering a multi-dimensional light experience while providing outstanding general illumination.
This diffused, circular, wall and ceiling luminaire features a ripple-like, concave, transparent front. The refracted light emitted from the ripple pattern on the front has the effect of slightly changing its shape depending on the angle from which it is viewed.
Jakob Wagner explains, "It's fascinating to look at the ripples that occur after an object falls to the surface of the water. "I wanted to capture that moment by shaping the light from the inside using the shape of concentric circles of different heights." "Just as ripples add dimension to calm water, ripples on glass add dimension to light. That's what makes Ripples such an engaging, dynamic and comfortable light source."
"The uniqueness of Wagner's design is that it's as simple as it looks at first glance. And it keeps changing every time you pass it," says Rasmus Markholt, Louis Poulsen's Idea and Design Director. "He succeeded in creating a design that gave a multi-dimensional experience. In other words, the lamp is designed on many levels. At first glance, it looks like a circular opal lamp, a glowing circular object. It's extremely minimalistic, so even if you put 50 of them in one room, it won't be very eye-catching. But the closer you get, the more you see concentric waves of light. Each of these waves refracts without stopping. When you touch the surface, you will be surprised at how smooth the outside is. The ripples inside create a magical feeling."
Lipples is a slim, concave circular shape with a strong light in the center and a paler towards the edges. The diffuser offset sits deep in the fixture, adding depth when viewed from the front. The slim housing is reminiscent of a floating disc, and the perforations in the opaque housing provide indirect light to illuminate the luminaire's surroundings. The balance of intensity and subtlety makes it a perfect fit for any architectural space, with an overall deep, intense yet energetic effect.
Ripples are especially well suited for hallways, staircases, and entrance spaces, and are also ideal for small office spaces and conference rooms.
With a range of additional features, Ripples luminaires provide diffused light and are available in two diameters. Available in 3000mm and 310mm in all markets as standard 500K. There are transparent light-reflecting white opal and satin matte white options.
Lipples will be available from September 2017.
