About this product

Poul Henningsen endeavoured to create glare-free light, direct light where it was most needed, and create soft shadows, using incandescent bulbs as a light source.

Henningsen’s mathematic approach to lighting, using the logarithmic spiral, led to the development of the three-shade system in 1925-6 and the following product family, which over the years has included hundreds of different models, ranging from floor lamps to table lamps, pendants, chandeliers and wall lamps.

The PH 2/1 Portable is a cordless version of the classic petite table lamp, which with its mouth-blown opal glass-shades and stem and base made of either high-lustre chrome or metallised brass.

The portable version of the lamp is perfect for use both indoors and outdoors, particularly in spots where there may not be easy access to mains electricity, such as inside a bookcase or on a bedside table.

A classic goes portable

The iconic Poul Henningsen three-shade design, PH 2/1, is now available in a cordless version, perfect for use in the home or on the terrace. And with mouth-blown opal glass shades that click into place, this petite table lamp maintains the classic aesthetic, while being easy to move around.

Exceptional light

When creating the PH 2/1 Portable, no detail was spared. True to Poul Henningsen’s light philosophy, the portable version provides exceptional, glare-free light and is even fitted with a stepless dimming and a dim-to-warm setting, allowing you to create the perfect ambience, wherever you choose to use it.

The imperfect beauty of each lamp

Louis Poulsen’s glass lampshades are crafted using traditional mouth-blown glass techniques that have been refined through generations. Skilled glassmakers carefully shape and layer the molten glass, ensuring optimal optical quality and light distribution. Heated to over 1400°C, the glass is meticulously worked to achieve a smooth, uniform surface and a distinctive expression.

Each lampshade is individually mouth-blown, making every piece one of a kind. Subtle variations in glass thickness and texture naturally occur as part of the craftsmanship, adding character to each shade. These time-honored glassblowing techniques result in a timeless aesthetic and an uncompromising dedication to quality, where the artistry behind each lamp is both visible and tangible.
